At McDonald’s, a job is more than just serving meals — it’s often the first step toward a bigger dream. For Norfolk crew member Tanee Hinslee, that dream is becoming an EMT. She’s now one step closer to making it a reality.
The Meoli Organization is proud to announce Tanee as the latest recipient of the Meoli Companies Scholarship, designed to help employees pursue higher education and career goals.
“I first found out I won on June 16, and I was so happy and surprised,” Tanee said. “A million questions ran through my mind wondering how and why. This scholarship means a lot.”
Tanee will attend Tidewater Community College, where she’ll begin working toward her EMT certification. Her motivation is simple but powerful: to help people when they need it most.
“Being able to help people when they have no one else to turn to is something that really excites me,” she explained. “I want to help people get better and become a better person for the world.”
Investing in People First
For owner/operator Mike Meoli, supporting employees like Tanee is at the heart of the company’s mission.
“We are so proud of Tanee and her dedication both to her work and her dreams,” said Meoli. “Her passion for helping others and her commitment to her future embodies the spirit of our scholarship program. Supporting our employees in reaching their goals — both inside and outside of work — is one of the most meaningful things we can do.”
The Meoli Companies Scholarship was established in 2023 and awards $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors employed at Meoli-owned McDonald’s restaurants. Applications are evaluated anonymously by a review committee, ensuring decisions are based on essays, academic achievement, and community involvement. The scholarship can be used for four-year universities, community colleges, or trade schools — recognizing that each student’s path to success is unique.
A Crew Member with Big Dreams
Though she’s only been with McDonald’s for seven months, Tanee has already found joy in the teamwork, connections, and skills she’s developed. “I’m the type to go at my own speed rather than rush into a big college. I want to take my time and succeed,” she shared. “I’ve been switching between a lot of careers before settling my heart down on this one, and I just feel like it’s right for me.”
Her advice to others chasing their own dreams? “Never give up on your dreams, even if sometimes you don’t think they’ll come true. Trust in yourself and work hard to achieve the things you want — and always be yourself.”
When she’s not focused on school or work, Tanee enjoys a McChicken or McCrispy Strips paired with her go-to custom drink mix of Fanta Orange, Sprite, and fruit punch.
The Meoli Organization is honored to celebrate Tanee’s journey — from fast food to first response — and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in the future.
