The Meoli Companies: Helping to “Build the Bench” of Delaware’s Next Business Leaders

Leadership delaware speakers

The Meoli Companies was honored to have our Owner/Operator, Mike Meoli, selected to share his experiences and insights at a recent Leadership Delaware conference. Not only was this a great opportunity for Meoli Companies to demonstrate—and continue to fulfill—our commitment to helping inspire and drive strong businesses that support a thriving Delaware, but Leadership Delaware’s requesting Mike specifically shows they recognize the many ways Meoli Companies integrates strong business practices with innovative approaches to create opportunities for individual careers as well as the growth of local economies.

Mike took his place with several other respected, highly achieved leaders at the presentation on May 4 at Beebe Healthcare’s Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing. In addition to Mike, some of the other speakers on the day’s topics addressing the business dynamics and opportunities in Sussex County included David Tam, M.D., President and CEO of Beebe Healthcare; Delaware State Representative from the 37th District, Ruth Briggs King; Chris James Perdue, Ph.D., Chairman of Perdue Farms, Inc., and Thomas J. Cook, Executive Director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority. This impressive group led multiple discussions to inform, enlighten, and inspire the newest group of Fellows to join Leadership Delaware in 2023.

“It was humbling to be part of such an impressive group and exhilarating to experience their presentations—even with my longevity in business, there’s always room for learning, and my time at the Leadership Delaware event served up education for all of us,” said Mike Meoli. “I am grateful to have had this opportunity to share my knowledge with the 2023 Leadership Delaware fellows, to inspire them and help them realize the potential they have to help lead this state and the communities in which they work and live.”

Mike’s presentation focused on Sussex County and was entitled, “The Secret Sauce of Doing Business in Southern Delaware.” Mike shared stories of his own background to solidify his connection to the area, delved into topics ranging from the opportunities of Delaware tourism to the unique considerations afforded by Sussex County geography and population make up, and candidly discussed challenges and successes of Meoli McDonalds to help illustrate the value of certain strategies—including franchising—and tactics. Mike concluded by offering his heartfelt advice, culled from his personal and professional experience as well as his love of Delaware, “Delaware’s talent pool is incredible right now, which means the sky’s the limit for where businesses can go. Leverage all the great resources we have right here at home to create strong communities and pave the way for future generations.”

Meoli Companies applauds the nonprofit Leadership Delaware for the critical work they’ve been doing for 15 years to drive positive change through the nurturing of strong leaders possessing the vision, integrity, commitment, and motivation to see Delaware through a continuum of progress. We look forward to continuing our participation with the organization to help them add to their success in “building the bench” of Delaware’s next generation of leaders.
